Adventure Tourism Gold 2015

Cairns, Australia

Visitors who have walked on the sea floor of Australia’s Great Barrier Reef near Cairns, Australia, have long known they were experiencing an award winning product but now it’s official!

Seawalker @ Green Island Australia was last night named finalist for the title of Australia’s best Adventure Tourism business at the prestigious Australian Tourism Awards.

General Manager, Allan Woo said the recognition was a testament to the staff at Seawalker @ Green Island who were dedicated to giving visitors an up-close and personal tour of the planet’s largest living structure.

“I’m shocked by the news and extremely proud. Shocked because of the fierce competition in this category and proud that the efforts of the entire team at Seawalker have been recognised at the national level,” Mr Woo said.

The Great Barrier Reef is home to Seawalker @ Green Island and can be seen from space. It is one of the seven natural wonders of the world and deservedly so. It is an under-water garden full of colourful fish, vibrant corals, friendly turtles and inquisitive dolphins.

“We love sharing this incredible environment with our visitors.

“Seawalker @ Green Island is a truly unique experience they will never forget.”

Celebrating and recognising excellence in tourism, the Australian Tourism Awards are the tourism industry’s premier awards program and most anticipated event.

“To be recognised at the national level for adventure tourism is just incredible. I mean we were confident we were offering our guests a world-class experience but to finish as a finalist just confirms that we are definitely doing something right!” Mr Woo said.

The national accolade comes after Seawalker @ Green Island Australia was named the best business in Queensland for Adventure Tourism, taking out the Gold Award for that category at the Queensland Tourism Awards in 2015.

“We offer an alternative to scuba diving. Visitors don’t need any previous experience and there are no new skills to learn.

“Our guides take you on a tour through the gardens of the Great Barrier Reef where you are surrounded by colourful fish and coral. You get to walk on the smooth, clean sand of the sea floor.

“We use special dive helmets so there is no water on your face, you can wear glasses or contact lenses, your makeup stays on and your hair stays dry!

“Seawalker is an incredible experience and perfect for non-swimmers or anyone who isn’t confident in the water,” Mr Woo said.

Seawalker @ Green Island has been in operation since 2003 and takes tours daily.
